Undergraduate Degree Schemes

At Lancaster University undergraduate Computer Science lets you study at the cutting edge of the discipline - exploring all aspects of system development and gaining an understanding of the complex interactions between humans and computers.

Our world-class research program feeds directly into the undergraduate syllabus and allows you to work with international experts in the field. In the last national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) the Computing Department at Lancaster was rated as Grade 5 (Excellent). The best way to get a feel for Computer Science at Lancaster is to consider some of our on-going research work, e-Campus and Relate.

In general Computer Science at Lancaster is research led and taught with an emphasis on experimental systems development - theory and practice are carefully balanced to ensure that students gain all the knowledge required to tackle the most challenging of new problems.

Our aim is to provide you with a first class education in one of the most exciting and innovative subjects available at Lancaster University.

Degree Schemes Available

Single Major Degree Schemes At Lancaster we offer the following single major undergraduate degree schemes:

Our courses are all three years, apart from Computer Science Innovation which can be taken as either a three-year BSc or a four-year MSci course.

Deciding which Degree to Study G400, G4G6 and G4P3 are designed for students who want to study a broad computer science curriculum with an emphasis on experimental computer science. You will benefit from a first class education at one of the largest systems departments in the country. If you already know that having a specialism such as Software Engineering or Multimedia Systems in your degree is important to you then G4G6 or G4P3 should be a good match to your requirements.

G401 is designed for students who want to focus on the new and compelling problems that arise at the very edge of Computer Science. The course is challenging but students benefit from small group specialised teaching. If you are passionate about Computer Science and have already demonstrated a commitment to the subject then this unique course is right for you.

Our BSc Hons Computer Science/North America-Australasia (G402) and BSc Hons Computer Science/Europe (G403) are for students who wish to include a one-year international experience during their period of study. These schemes are similar to a normal G400, G4G6 and G4P3 except they include a second year abroad in one of Lancaster's world-class partner universities. The year abroad is not an add-on to your degree; it is fully integrated so that you can complete your BSc in just three years.

Combined Major Degree Schemes Students who wish to combine the core areas of Computing with studies in another discipline may take one of a wide range of combined major schemes:

Lancaster also offers BSc Hons degree schemes in Combined Science and Combined Technology, in which three different science or technology subjects (including Computer Science) are studied. Students interested in Combined Science or Technology should consult the general University prospectus or contact the Combined Science/Technology Admissions Tutor.
